Thai Iced Coffee

  • Author: Steve Peters

This Thai Coffee recipe makes a delicious cardamom flavored iced coffee with sweetened condensed milk and cream. It's great over ice in the summer, though just as good enjoyed hot any time of the year.

Units Scale
  • 2 cardamom pods
  • 6 tablespoons freshly ground coffee
  • 1/4 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/4 cup half and half or cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom

Crush the cardamom pods in a mortar and pestle or with a heavy object. They don't need to be ground, just crushed enough for the seeds to be released. Combine this with the coffee grounds.

Brew 24 ounces of coffee using your preferred brewing method. I use my drip coffee maker that actually makes a decent cup of coffee. Briefly cool the coffee after it's done brewing. You can also brew the coffee in advance and store it in the fridge until ready to use.

While the coffee brews, in a bowl whisk together the sweetened condensed milk, cream, and cardamom.

Fill two large glasses with ice. Pour over the coffee, then the sweet cardamom cream. Stir to combine and enjoy.

No whole cardamom pods? Use 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom in place of the whole pods when brewing the coffee.

Prefer hot coffee? Just skip the ice.
